Once upon a time...

... There was an artist who painted a portrait of a lady.

"Leonardo da Vinci was an artist and an inventor. His inventions and paintings made him famous after his death." -N

"He painted many famous paintings such as The Last Supper and Mona Lisa." -Connor

"My thoughts about Mona Lisa are that she is quiet, and very calm."

In Art class we drew ourselves as Mona Lisa
...
"We had to outline Mona Lisa on a transparency. We had to draw ourselves on a piece of paper posed like Mona Lisa. We traced all of the lines on our self portrait. Then colored our self portraits with colored pencils. After the self portrait was done we started painting Mona Lisa, then traced over the paint. We glued our self portraits to another piece of paper. Then we stapled Mona Lisa over our self portrait." -Braden

"A portrait is when you paint, draw or take a picture of a person. A self portrait is when you paint, draw or take a picture of yourself doing something or in a pose." -Erik

And we learned about the Elements and Principles of Design along the way...

"I used the elements of art by using SHAPES to form Mona Lisa. And also COLOR to make it more realistic and SPACE to show where she is." -Chase

To show CONTRAST, "I made my skin white and my shirt black." -J

For MOVEMENT, "Your eyes will move right to the sky. It is colorful an dark at the same time." -E

In using BALANCE, "My face and head in this picture are symmetrical, but the rest of my picture is asymmetrical." -E

"In our Mona ME-sa we used 6 colors and repeated a PATTERN in the background of those colors." -Jenna

Reflections on our artwork...

"I think people will think that my artwork is good and not-good. Because some people like one kind of art and other people like other different kinds of art. Not everyone like the picture that I made."

"I am very proud of my artwork because I spent a very long time on it. I think that I did a very good job on it. So I hope you like my project as much as I do." -Bianca

"The most difficult thing to do was the painting and all the outlining we did. It was very difficult because we had to paint every day til it was done." -K

"I think others would be very proud of me because of the effort I put in this project." -D

"I am going to take it home and show my mom and have her keep it somewhere safe." -D

"I think the most difficult thing on this artwork was all the outlining and all of those little curvy and jagged lines." -Kameron

"I am very proud of my artwork because we took it step by step and I took my time on it so it turned out really perfect. I loved this project." -Alexis
